Yellowstone Lodging - Cooke City Camping

The Cooke City area is located in the northeast region of Yellowstone National Park. It is very remote and camping here offers the most solitude of all the gateway communities. Campers must give some extra forethought in your preparation. You do not want lingering food odors in your camper or tent. This is literally bear country, they live here, you're just visiting.

There are 2 campgrounds maintained my Gallatin National Fores. Colter and Soda Butte Campground. They are First-Come, First-Served. They do not have RV sites. Bear activity in these campgrounds can be very high. Campers must use the food storage and bear boxes which is available 3/1 - 12/1. The next available campground is 9 miles inside Yellowstone National Park at Pebble Creek Campground which is open from June through September.

Colter Campground - 1.9 miles from Cooke City U.S. Route 212. Open 7/7 - 10/31. 23 sites $9.00. Water and toilets.

Soda Butte Campground - .6 miles from Cooke City U.S. Route 212. Open 7/1 - 10/31. 20 sites $9.00. Water and toilets.
